Welcome to Kent Health and Fitness

Hi, I’m Mark, the founder/head coach of Kent Health and Fitness and I am absolutely passionate about health and learning about health day to day, week in, week out. It is this passion which has led to me starting the company. I was not always so health driven though, rewind to before 2020 and I was slowly running myself into the grave trying to run two businesses and clocking about 65 hours per week including some very gruelling hours on the road. Yet I just kept going and was very much stuck in a rut of obligation and habit. 

In January 2020 I found out that I had hypertension (high blood pressure), I was pre diabetic, I had high LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, high triglycerides and had a level of body fat that labelled me as obese. In short I had what is known in the medical sector as “metabolic syndrome” which is when you have two or more of the above markers, I had five of them. I carried on for a short while (due to contractual obligations) leading the life of bad diet, long hours and stress that had brought me to that point, then Covid hit and gave me some thinking time.

I had realised that the NHS was very limited in terms of specific advice it could give me to reverse things and it had more pressing things to worry about with Covid then being at the forefront of attention, so I decided to do whatever I could to work things out for myself. I spent all day every day reading from and listening to what exerts in the field of metabolic health had to say. It was a bit of a process of learning and of making lifestyle changes but I got there and I got everything back to an acceptable baseline. I did however realise that what is said about diet and exercise far and wide is not quite as simple as 2+2=4! I decided that this was now the field of expertise for me professionally as it had fully captivated my attention. 

From there I decided to get as qualified as possible in the field of health, nutrition and general fitness in order to pursue my passion and help other people. I have used my understanding and experience to put together and offer specific health tests that can help identify pre diabetes and metabolic syndrome before they manifest into a serious chronic illness. Further to identifying them I am well versed in the methods that can be used to reverse most irregular readings of the metrics of which are tested for.

It is unfortunately true that over one third of the UK population currently has type 2 pre diabetes, most of whom do not even realise it! It is also true that identifying type 2 pre diabetes and then treating it is the single most significant way to prevent/reduce most chronic illnesses later in life that may have otherwise arisen. In other words, high blood sugar/high insulin levels are the largest driver for the main chronic illnesses on earth such as heart disease, strokes, full type 2 diabetes, dementia and research is showing that certain cancers are greatly affected by prevalently high blood sugar/insulin levels.

I/we are truly passionate about engaging with each person as an individual and in treating a person’s unique situation holistically. With that in mind the company is run with a solid code of ethics and integrity, always with the client in the driving seat. All personal trainers/coaches that operate within Kent Health and Fitness are fully qualified, fully insured and solidly conform to the companies code of conduct towards clients. Most importantly only people who truly know their subject inside out are utilised by us. With that said, I take most appointments myself and anyone is free to request me specifically if they want to.
